Sentimental Journeys: The Rise of Hyper Sentimentalism
Hyde Midtown Miami presents Sentimental Journeys: The Rise of Hyper Sentimentalism, an evocative exhibition spotlighting one of contemporary art’s most profound movements. In partnership with Manolis Projects Gallery, Florida’s largest working studio and fine art gallery, this showcase features a captivating mix of multimedia installations and works by local and international artists. Audiences are invited to explore universal emotions and nostalgia through a variety of artistic perspectives.
Sentimental Journeys delves into the raw vulnerability and enduring appeal of sentimentality in art, offering a reflective experience that resonates across cultural and personal boundaries. The exhibition features thought-provoking works such as Mr. Brainwash’s Lady Di, a striking portrayal of Billie Holiday that captures the universal power of music and emotional expression, and Atomiko’s vibrant Orange Humanized Smile, commissioned for Sentimental Journeys which reimagines Florida’s citrus orange as a bold symbol of joy and community. Alongside these pieces, audiences will encounter Bruce Helander’s reinterpretations of iconic imagery, Maite Nobo’s architectural-inspired sculptures, Hunt Slonem’s whimsical explorations of innocence and nostalgia, and specifically commissioned pieces for Sentimental Journeys, Puss N’ Boots and Puppybutt by GOLDMANOLIS, a collaborative art entity formed by nationally acclaimed collage artist Janet Gold and renowned abstract colorist J. Steven Manolis. This curation celebrates the enduring connections between memory, identity, and love in a fast-paced world.
